Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a method of education that uses hands-on materials specially created to help nurture the child's already existing relationship with God and assist them in maturing their understanding of Jesus Christ and His teachings. These materials, otherwise known as works, help make the Mystery of God concrete for the child. The heart of the catechesis for children under six years of age revolves around the Parable of the Good Shepherd. Jesus announces that He is the Good Shepherd who calls each one by name. The sheep listen to the voice of the Shepherd and follow Him.
Our trained catechists present the materials to the children, either individually or in a small group - allowing them to work with and meditate on Sacred Scripture and the various prayers and gestures of the liturgies. Learning takes place primarily through the work of each child with the materials, personal and communal prayer, and discussion. Children meet weekly in a specially prepared environment called an atrium.
